"With No Money at All from Taxpayers"

Posted by Jerry Bader on

Last fall I was contacted by Karen Ziemke, Development Director for the St. Joseph Food Program, which serves the Fox Cities. I wasn't aware of this program and Karen wanted me to know there is a self-sustaining program that helps roughly a thousand families a week and does so entirely within the private sector, no taxpayer money. To say I was impressed by what I saw would be an understatement.

I promised Karen I'd do a video piece on St. Joe's for my blog, but events conspired against that effort until recently. Then St. Joe's founder, Tom Schiltz, was honored with a Wisconsin Heroes Award for his work. The following video is an interview with Tom and Karen. Both should be proud; this, as Karen told me months ago, is a program where people can help people without the government getting involved.
