WAUSAU– Incensed by Governor Walker’s choice to say no to $12 billion in federal funding to expand BadgerCare and insure over 200,000 Wisconsinites, those on the BadgerCare waitlist, faith leaders, and activists will rally at 1 pm today with Rep. Mandy Wright to express their outrage over his decision. 

By rejecting $12 billion in federal funding to expand BadgerCare, Gov. Walker is denying healthcare to people like Shalaina Aaron, Wausau, who faces multiple health issues without insurance and plans to attend the event.

Aaron is number 67,539 on the BadgerCare waiting list, which now tops 140,000 people who would have received healthcare coverage if Gov. Walker accepted the federal funds.

Walker’s refusal guarantees that thousands of low-income adults in Wisconsin will slip through the cracks and remain uninsured. Tsilos Schoener, Wausau, is another of thousands denied healthcare security and peace of mind by Gov. Walker’s refusal who plans to attend the event.

The rally marks the start of activist pushback against the governor’s decision. Events are slated statewide with rallies in Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine throughout the day.
