It's actually a speech Paul Harvey gave to the Future Farmers of America in 1978. I've mentioned on the air many times that Paul Harvey is my radio hero. Nobody before or since has married words to delivery the way he did. This piece mentions that his best friend after his wife was his voice. But Paul Harvey didn't have the classic "radio voice." Oh, he had a great set of pipes, but they were accompanied by a folksy Tulsa twang that took good writing and made it sing.

Paul Harvey could make you care about anything; from the 75th anniversary of two people you were never got to meet to a roach killer. In fact, his live read of ads were every bit as entertaining as anything else he shared on the air.

I read one post that said some people didn't get the Super Bowl Dodge ad featuring Harvey's voice. Millions who remember him did. And I'm guessing millions who were hearing his voice for the first time were capitvated by it. We in radio often wondered what ABC radio(his network for decades) would die when Paul Harvey passed away. The network who was broadcasting him when he passed had the good sense not to try to replace him. There was one Paul Harvey, nobody could take his place. But in a desert of absolutely tasteless moronic Super Bowl ads, his voice was an oasis.
