Boy, Do I Feel Old Now...

Today is my 51st birthday. The highlight of the day; when I told my Alzheimer's stricken Mom the date, she instantly knew the significance. And it got me to thinking how much she has changed, which got me to thinking how much the world has changed. Get a load of the cost of things the year I was born:

Cost Of Living 1961

How Much things cost in 1961
Yearly Inflation Rate USA 1.07%
Yearly Inflation Rate UK 2.9%
Average Cost of new house $12,500.00
Average Income per year $5,315.00
Cost of a gallon of Gas 27 cents
Average Cost of a new car $2,850.00
Bacon for 1LB 67 cents
Eggs per dozen 30 cents
Below are some Prices for UK Pounds Sterling
Average House Price 2,770

That salary is $38,300 in today's dollars. That house would cost about $87,000. That .30 for eggs is $2.16 in today's dollars, which means eggs have stayed under the inflation rate. Most interesting;  to match the rate of inflation, the .27 gallon of gas should be $1.95 in 2012, according to the inflation calculator I typically use.
