A stunning development, to say the least! Word was out that Johnson was eyeing a run when Leinenkugel announced his candidacy, so it's not as though Johnson's entry is a new development in terms of Leinenkugel's decision-making process. Johnson could be the least known savior in political history. Very few people knew of him before his announcement, but his conservative bona fides combined with talk of a Herb Kohl-like personal war chest seem to make him the favorite now for the Republican nomination.

There is no question Russ Feingold is vulnerable and thought he caught a break with Tommy Thompson skipping this race. It doesn't appear that way now.
