An Evangelical calls for a Glenn Beck boycott because Beck urged people to leave churches that call for "social and economic justice." Clearly what Beck is talking about and others have pointed out, is that liberal churches are now using "social and economic justice" as codewords for socialism. A few weeks back we posted here a statement on global warming by a group of Wisconsin churches who said it had become a matter of social and economic justice. Clearly they were referring to the massive global redstribution of wealth that liberals hope will come with global warming legislation.

At issue here is defintion; there's no question Jesus called on us to help the poor. He calls on all Christians individually to help their fellow man. Beck is referring to those who would corrupt the Gospel to read that governments are mandated by scripture to implement social and economic justice. There's not question that's what "progressive" churches are now calling for and Beck called them out for it. I don't always agree with Glenn Beck, but I do this time. Churches can be great instruments for individual giving. But that's not what they're referring to when they make these blanket calls for "social and economic justice.
