Tell me this doesn't feel like Brett Favre. In Thompson's defense I suspect and this story suggests that the more Thompson is urged to run, the more seriously he considers it. On the other hand, the more fawning he gets, perhaps the more eager he is to tease, to generate even more attention. Thompson has always enjoyed campaigning, but he's not a young man and the appeals vs. the rigors of a statewide run may be what has Thompson torn.

If, on the other hand, he doesn't really have serious thoughts of doing this and this is all for attention it would be a tremendous disservice to the party. I still think it's doubtful he'll run, but I'd like to believe he's seriously considering it and not just messing with us. If he doesn't run I guess we'll never know for sure(unless he waits till the zero hour to announce he isn't running; then he was screwing with us).

Democrats are terrified of the prospect of a Thompson/Feingold run. They're worried enough about Terrence Wall. A Thompson run combined with an exciting governor's race would create TREMENDOUS prospects for the WI GOP in the fall. On the other hand, if Thompson decides to run for governor, which I still fear is a possibility, that dream could turn into a nightmare.
