It's not surprising that people were voting for Edward Kennedy almost exclusively out of loyalty. But what I do find surprising about this Wall Street Journal story is how many voters appear to be using Kennedy's passing as an opportunity to make a "clean break?" So is Massachusetts' "blueness" mostly about ideology or tradition? We may find out today.
