Eugene Kane weighs in on the latest drowning in La Crosse. A couple of years ago two former NYPD detectives argued there was a "smiley face drowning" serial killer that had hit all over the country. It was even suggested a Sheboygan man was a victim. After their initial release of their investigation, they said more evidence was coming. It never came.

Common sense still tells me this is nothing more than a string of drunken young people getting too close to the water. Still, I have to confess to nagging doubts as to whether something else is going on here.
