It's Up to You Whether You Want To Tell Your Partner(s) Your HIV Positive: Warning! Graphic Content!

Posted by Jerry Bader on

As the headline warns, this pamphlet from the International Planned Parenthood Foundation does contain very graphic sexual material. Of particular note is this from page 2:

Remember

Sexual and reproductive rights

are recognized around the

world as human rights.

Sexual rights relate to a persons

sexuality, sexual orientation,

gender identity and sexual health.

Reproductive rights relate to a

person’s fertility, reproduction and

reproductive health. There is some

overlap between the two concepts.

Every person living with HIV is

entitled to these rights and they

are necessary for the development

and well-being of all people and the

societies in which they live.

And this on page 6:

Some countries have laws that violate the right

of young people living with HIV to decide whether

to disclose. Young people living with HIV can take

steps to protect themselves.

This takes "if it feels good do it" to a deadly extreme. Your "right" to "fun" trumps somebody else's safety. Granted, if that somebody else wasn't engaging in casual sex, they would have nothing to worry about. But this pamphlet argues that even those in long term relationships shouldn't feel compelled to tell their partners.
