Rachel Ley is the founder of Literacy for Little Ones a charity that gives books to new parents to read to their newborns. Right now her organization distributes books to 5 hospitals, but started in 2009 with Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.
When I was at Ministry Saint Michael's Women and Infant Center with Mia I remember getting the cellophane wrapped bedtime book. I began reading it to her right away and continue reading it to her now.
Reading to your infant not only creates a bond and it's a great way to spend cuddle time, but it also helps your kids become better readers. Listen to the interview Bryan and I did with Rachel about her program and what inspired her to start it.
If you'd like to donate new books for Literacy for Little Ones please drop them off at my baby shower that Bryan is throwing for me at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital Cafe on Friday, September 13th from 5am to 9am.
