On day two of NFL free agency, the Green Bay Packers retained one of their unrestricted players while losing a restricted free agent. Mike Neal will return after agreeing to a two year contract extension. The financial terms haven't been disclosed and it was Neal who broke the news. He tweeted, " I'll enjoy your winters for 2 more years!" Neal made the move from defensive end to linebacker last season and got better as the season progressed. He wound up with a career high five sacks.
M.D. Jennings is joining the Chicago Bears. The safety signed a one year contract Tuesday. The Packers declined to offer the restricted free agent a qualifying offer, in effect, letting him leave. Jennings started all 16 games at safety for the Packers last season.
Owen Daniels, the former Wisconsin Badgers tight end, cut by the Houston Texans this week, was scheduled to visit the Packers. Green Bay is in a tenuous position at tight end with Jermichael Finley's uncertain medical status and Andrew Quarless an unrestricted free agent.
